My name is Hannah Bratton and I am a painter born and raised in Austin, TX.  As an artist, my aim is to make sense of my world through abstract painting. I like to work with color and texture to express emotions and feelings that at times feel too complex to speak about.  By combining these elements and letting go of expectations, I am able to create something that reflects my process of feeling.  Each painting is a piece of me, often incorporating shifts of light to dark as well as explorations of space and color as I further explore myself. Within this process I find peace and clarity.  My goal is to create a body of work that creates a vibrant emotional experience for the viewer and leave them with something to interpret.  By emphasizing aesthetics, I try to increase the dynamic between audience and author by depicting emotions made from memories and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.  Painting the tension between childhood memories and my current self allows me to better process my world and make sense of my experiences.  My works, while heavily inspired by the beauty of Texas Landscapes, don’t reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
